Many are concern about sex-addiction is under treated in Singapore. Usually, sex addicts are treated as outpatients, and through psychotherapy sessions, they are to develop coping strategies for their urges.

However, the stigma of being treated for a mental problem puts sufferers off coming forward to seek treatment, said a consultant psychiatrist in private practice. He also added that on average basis, addicts of sex or vices struggle for 4 to 8 years before seeking help.

According to a psychiatrist specializes in treating people with addiction, average ten sex-addiction patients that he had treated per month, of whom two are women.

The Straits Times reported that each time the media surfaces case of sex-addiction related subjects, the psychiatrists would get new patients. The numbers of male patients are four to five times more than the female. Thus, there will be new cases every two to three months.
